Connections
Connectivity is inspired by cartography and the ephemeral characteristic of nature. Using mixed media materials such as antique maps, thread, birch bark, and oil paint I create textured surfaces that invite the viewer into a world of sewn layers. This work is about allowing myself to let go and connect with the world around me. To me, painting is a spiritual event. The space between artist and surface is natural, supernatural, and spiritual. I enjoy the evolution of process, and my collages address one’s inner self, connecting with the outside world. With my research of nature and traversing through its many forms, I have started to create an abstract translation with unique materials that visually explore physicality and place.
